I currently own a successful small business. I do not work outside the home. This is one small business that I endeavored a few years ago. It was fun, profitable and doesn't take much start up money.

Syd Vicious and Mad Dog
I quit my job in the sleep research business to stay home with my then, 4 and 5 year old. I have an older daughter and she was 16 at the time. While it wasn't my first time at the rodeo, I had never been a stay at home mom. Not even close!
My life was not a typical, normal American Family. I had been more like the dad who only pops in for fun visits a few hours a day. I cherished my girls but I spent so little waking time with them, it was all about fun! Dad gave them their baths and put them to bed. Dave took them to daycare. Dave was the primary caregiver.
I raised my oldest by myself most of the time so I never worked less than two or three jobs at a time. I lived one mile away from my parents. My parents spoiled her terribly and she spent lots of time, happily at their house. I never had the opportunity to stay home with her.
When I decided to stay home with Sydney and Madison, it was a whole new world. I had NO idea how to be a stay at home mom! What did they do? I knew I had to keep the house clean and cook but then what?
People kept telling me, I'd have all the time in the world to lay on that couch and eat Bon Bons!
These girls are very smart, I noticed that. The two of them seemed to work in tandem at times. Against me. For this reason, I had special nick names for them. Syd Vicious and Mad Dog. I figured out quickly they were out to get me.
They were always whispering and planning stuff behind my back. Like the time I caught them using their bunk bed ladder to climb out the window of their bedroom to go outside. I could understand that if they were 16 but the fact that they were doing this at 3 and 4 did not bode well for my future. I also caught them giving each other rides on the garage door. One girl would hang on to the door while the other pushed the button. Partners in crime.
Those two were going to give me a run for my money, this I knew. I decided to approach this sort of like a 12 step program or something like that...I was going to just take it one day at a time. The girls thought it was weird too so I knew we all had to adjust to our new life.
So the first thing I had to figure out is...what are all the other mom's doing? What was I responsible for in being a stay at home mom? What does a mom do? I mean, really do? I decided I should probably treat this like any new job and create a sort of business plan and have some goals.
Now that first week was the easiest until Syd Vicious, who was safely on the couch watching morning cartoons (I thought!) ran into the kitchen, all red cheeked, wild eyed and screaming, "Mommy! I swallowed a Bullseye Ball!"
Week one and already an emergency!
So easy to laugh now, but was I in for a wild ride. After 8 years being a "full time mom" I know that anything goes. Rocks up the nose? No problem! Has your child bitten by a field mouse? Don't worry!
If you hear blood curdling screams? Don't jump up - they're just playin'!
They say silence is golden but I say it's scary! Being a mom requires every sense one can employ. Especially that 6th one. It's a lot of fun too. I have found many ways to make money, including investing some funds in the stock market, a home business and being really resourceful. Not because I have to but because it's smart!
I am writing a Hub article to link that will explain in detail how anyone can start a business from home with very little monetary investment that was profitable for me and another mother. Computer graphic skills are a must but you could easily partner up with another mom like I did. I can offer the short cuts and how to's.
Being a housewife is tough some days, but keep it real! A real housewife can do anything she wants these days and look good doing it too. It just takes lots of practice and the ability to think on your feet and lots of patience. It isn't like on t.v. but it is what you make it.

Celebrate Good Times!
Celebrating my 14th wedding anniversary was full of surprises for me and my husband. I am so thankful that we are having so much fun together after 20 years. This idea has been floating around in my head for several years. I finally decided to try ordering gourmet food by Fed Ex - it was quite an experience!

Search for Money!
The business that my husband and I own is called, Real Property Research, L.L.C. I primarily search public record files for information for title companies, lawyers, foreclosure companies or mortgage companies. One database that people frequently are unaware of are the state databases to search for property that may be yours.
When property is turned over to the state they hold it for a period of time while they attempt to find the rightful owner. One of the ways in which they do this is to provide a database anyone can search for free.

Is this it?
When I decided to be a stay at home mom and housewife, it was a huge adjustment for me. The hardest thing I had to cope with was boredom. I was used to working 40 to 60 hours a week, nights and evening shifts, weekends and holidays. I had been working nights since my two youngest were born.
Children tend to become attached to the parent that they have the most contact with. In my home, this was my husband. While this may not be normal for many families, I had never done anything in my life normally up to this point, so who knew the difference? In essence, our roles were switched.
My husband bathed the children, put them to sleep, rocked them when they were sick. He read bedtime stories every single night and tucked them in. Dave (the mom) would get them up and make their breakfast. He dressed the girls and dropped them at daycare. My shifts often ended no earlier than 7 a.m. and no later than around 8:30 a.m. I would try to sleep and pick the girls up around 3 p.m.
Now, this might seem selfish to many moms, and I understand that, however, I was the bread winner. I felt obligated to keep getting raises, promotions and over-time. My husband and I were quite comfortable with our roles. Dave drove a huge delivery truck and would often take the girls in their car seats to work with him and he made decent money but it wasn't going to be enough to support three daughters and ourselves. I also carried all our health benefits.
Dave was 37 when our first child together was born, so he was in love with those babies! He was wrapped around their tiny little fingers from the moment they were born. It was hilarious to me to see this great big guy bull dozed by a tiny little baby! (Dave is 6'1 and weighs in at about 250 lbs). I loved the way our lives were and I enjoyed working, a lot.
I started a side business and when that took off, Dave managed the entire thing and once it got off the ground, things changed again. Now he was making way more money than I could ever make in my field. It took all his time though. Things began to fall apart a little bit and we knew that we had to make a big change.
Now it was my turn to stay home and be camp bitch. I was in for a surprise! We all were. I had not been back long from a sleep convention in Colorado so I was still trying to catch up. Before week one ended, my sweet little girl asked me if I wasn't sure I wanted to "go back to Colorado."
To be honest, I was finding out that staying home with two little girls, 5 and under was so much harder than going to work! Life got very interesting after that....
Things are getting real, real now...
